Doggie Days 2015 Tournament Benefits Hanover Humane Society

On July 23, the Hanover Women’s Golf Association 9 Hole League sponsored its Sixth Annual Doggie Days Tournament to benefit the Hanover Humane Society.  The event featured 28 players playing in a 9 hole scramble.  To emphasize the pet theme, each hole featured pictures of players’ pets:  dogs, cats, birds.  The  Air Force Eagle even sponsored one hole in hopes that someone would score an eagle! Tournament Chair, Suzanne Harman, worked with John Ellis, Golf Pro at Hanover Country Club, to promote and produce the event. Proceeds yielded $1,240 in donations for the Hanover Humane Society. Many thanks go to Fin & Feather in Ashland for sponsoring a hole and providing two prizes; to the new Sugar Fix Bakery in Ashland for donating a gift certificate, and to James River Cellars Winery for donating wine for prizes.  The winning team of Lanny Turnage, Jennifer McAdoo and Carole Johnson received gift certificates from Homemades by Suzanne!     The Hanover Humane Society is a private 501(c)3 non-profit.  All funding for the organization is derived from private fundraising and development initiatives.  The Hanover Humane Society does not receive any public funding.  Hanover Humane’s mission is to support animal welfare through its adoption, education and prevention...

Hanover Humane Visits Martial Arts World in Ashland

On July 21, 2015, Chip, a former Hanover Humane Society pup, visited with the young Campers at the Martial Arts World in the Ashland-Hanover Shopping Center.  During the visit, the Camp attendees heard Chip’s story of how he and his family made their way to  Hanover Humane.  They also learned about the Hanover Humane Society’s animal adoption, education, and prevention programs as well as the many activities that the organization undertakes in the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area.  After a brief presentation, the young Campers were able to handle Chip and feed him his favorite treats:  carob chips and cheerios!  To show their appreciation for the visit, the young Campers presented Chip with various donations for the animals in Hanover Humane’s Adoption Program. Liberty SCA Kiss the Pig Event

Recently, the SCA officers and representatives at Liberty Middle School, with oversight from their advisors, Rhonda Booth and Christian Edwards, worked to organize a “Kiss the Pig” fundraiser. Using spare change as a “vote,” the community service project allowed LMS students to “vote” for their favorite teacher(s) they wanted to see “Kiss the Pig.” Once the “winners” were chosen, “Petunia” the pig and her owner visited with the students so that the teachers could meet and kiss Petunia. Petunia enjoyed all the attention, and the students enjoyed meeting Petunia! In total, the event raised $198.70 which was donated to the Hanover Humane Society. The Hanover Humane Society, located at 12190 Washington Highway in Ashland is a recognized IRS non-profit 501 ( c) 3 entity. Its mission is to support animal welfare through its adoption, education, and prevention...
