The Students of Pole Green Elementary

January was “Caring for Critters” month at Pole Green Elementary.  To celebrate our furry friends, the entire school conducted a supply drive for items on Hanover Humane’s Donation List.  The enthusiastic students collected 12 boxes of milk bones, 41 rolls of paper towels, and a variety of other items including cat toys and treats, dog toys and treats, gently-used linens, etc.  There were so many items that it took the efforts of the children and Humane Society personnel over a half hour to load all the merchandise into Hanover Humane’s van!    The first graders won the “Caring for Critters” contest by collecting the most items!   Pictured here are some of the first graders who participated in this event.   As a reward for their efforts, the first graders will be able to meet “Chip,” a small cairn terrier-mix in a presentation on February 8, 2011.  “Chip” was born into Hanover Humane’s program and spends his time going to various speaking engagements where he talks about Hanover Humane, meets the children, and provides them with treat bags.   “Chip” always has a grand time, and the children love him!   Anyone interested in having “Chip” attend an event may email...

Happt 9th Birthday Abigail! Recently, Abigail Padgett celebrated her 9th birthday with family and friends and honored Hanover Human’es furry people!  In lieu of gifts, Abigail, a pet owner herself, asked that she be given items for the animals with Hanover Humane.  Friends, family, etc. visited Hanover Humane’s web site for the “Wish List” of items brought gift bags bearing the pet-related items to Abigail’s birthday party.   As a result, Abigail was able to present Hanover Humane with many bags of dog and cat food, cleaning supplies, toys, leashes, kitty litter, etc. which will be used for all Hanover Humane’s foster animals.   In addition, Abigail received a number of cash donations which she provided to Hanover Humane.   Abigail and her family hope to volunteer with Hanover Humane so they can help the animals...

Happy 10th Birthday Dale! This young gentleman presented us with donations which were given to him in lieu of birthday gifts.  On March 20, 2010, Chip went to visit with Dale and his friends at his birthday party held at the Ozone in Ashland.  Chip did a short presentation for the children,  and then they all able to hold him and rub his head.  Chip adored the attention!  Dale came to the facility a few days later to pose for this picture and bring additional “gifts” with him.  During his visit, Dale played with Chip and took a tour of the facility. Dale thoroughly enjoyed his “double-digit”...
